Luis’ diagnosis of a rare form of cancer brought profound changes in his life, forcing him to give up his dreams of playing varsity soccer in high school. It was a drastic shift for someone who was once so athletic and active.
However, the family's faith in God has been an unwavering source of strength. From battling depression to enduring the side effects of chemotherapy, Luis faced challenges that no teenager should have to face. Yet, today, he stands stronger than ever, with God providing the strength needed to navigate this storm.
Luis reached the maintenance phase in August 2022, marking a turning point in his battle against cancer. Determined to reclaim his life, he set his sights on running cross-country and playing soccer again. His resilience and determination didn't go unnoticed, and in October 2022, Luis received recognition as Athlete of the Month. Setting ambitious goals, he aimed to run a half marathon in 2023—an aspiration he achieved alongside his dad and brother.
