Madelyn as a child at Texas Children’s Hospital

1. Why are you a Child Life professional?

I found out about the Child Life profession when I was a child, as I used to be a hematology patient at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston from 2 to 18 years old. Child Life had a huge impact on my life as a child and inspired me to work in Child Life as an adult.

2. How long have you worked in Child Life?

I have worked in Child Life for about 2 years. I started as a seasonal aide (also known as an “elf”), transitioned to the weekend Child Life assistant team, and am now a full-time CLA in the Gill Center. I could not be happier. I love it!

 3. What has been the most rewarding aspect of Child Life?

Being able to give children a little glimpse of fun while in the hospital receiving chemo or any type of infusion. One of the ways that I am reminded of how rewarding my job as a CLA is, is by providing conversation as an outlet for patients and families to know we are here to provide a listening ear.

4. Describe your favorite Children's Cancer Fund experience?

My favorite so far is the activity cart! I am new in the Gill Center and cannot wait to experience more of the amazing things CCF does!
